a little about the EP
Ada Lea's debut EP is the portrait of a young woman studying her reflection in a mirror, observing herself not as she imagined she appeared, but seeing several variations of that self in succession. The four songs on the EP are snapshots of those selves, representations of specific events that took place in her life over the course of five years. The EP displays in a cyclical manner the trajectory of an ill-fated relationship, starting with the urgency of reclaiming one's identity in "Looking Back" and ending with the unravelling of it all in "Half Loving".
Ada Lea's music is a crafted dreamscape set to song. The Montreal-based double bassist and singer-songwriter has the rare ability to throw light on the darkness of our shared experience. Themes of longing, absentia and duplicity are revealed over a backdrop of harmonic depth and meditative richness. Sometimes Ada Lea is supported by guitar and drums, but other times she performs in the intimacy of her double bass alone, weaving hummable melodies over intricate bass lines and storied songs of memorable lyrics.
